Communication Training
For more than a decade, Delta Synergy has specialized in the development
of Custom Experiential Training and Development Programs
to help improve team communication. Our expertise
in this area is the foundation of our business and our leadership
philosophies are applied in every service that we offer. In the business
realm, it is crucial that high performing teams understand how to
communicate effectively with other high-performing teams, so that
results can be achieved. The following are examples of activities
that challenge multiple teams to work cooperatively with one another,
so that they can perform as a single unit. Teams will learn that effective
communication is necessary for success in these activities
and, afterward, teams will link their success strategies to their
professional work environment.
Building
Bridges To Success
Teams work to complete their specific sections of 'the Big Bridge' in isolation, with carefully structured contact with the other teams. In the end, all the teams bring their sections together into a single bridge capable of allowing our monster truck to journey across the raging river.

Teams will:
- be responsible for designing and constructing their individual section of a large bridge system;
- meet and coordinate actions and designs with the other teams on a strict schedule with severe communication restrictions;
- challenge their ability to communicate creatively, and capture important information quickly and with clarity;
- develop valuable insights around their team's responsibility within a multi-team project management environment.
Front
Office Back Office
This activity simulates situations that currently occur in many organizations. Individual teams with specific responsibilities, which include designing, planning, constructing and integrating a system, work in isolation from each other with only two-way radios or message runners for communication. Success is achieved when the final project is brought together for presentation.
Case Study - Communication and Relationship Development
The client, a sales division of a large pharmaceutical company, came to Delta looking to "improve communication" within the division. The client had observed that customer service and satisfaction had dropped recently, and attributed this drop in effectiveness to an apparent lack of effective communication between sales and administrative staff within the division. They requested that Delta create a customized one day program that would address these issues and create some positive change.
Once the assessment process was complete, the Delta Design Team got to work. They observed that communication was only part of the challenge, because it seems that there was also a strong sense of competition within the division.
Given that Delta would only have one day to work directly with this group, we decided to focus the program day around four objectives:
- Give the team members an opportunity to get to know each other better in a training environment;
- Promote, through experience, the overall value of working together in a cooperative attitude;
- Explore with the entire team the distorted perceptions of "mistrust" that have accumulated over the years;
- Give the entire team the opportunity to develop a Team Code of Conduct.
Delta developed and delivered
the One Day Experiential Training and Development Program
that focused on the primary objectives listed above. The program
was a strong mix of discussion around key challenges, activities
that promoted team cooperation and identification of key strategies
for changing workplace behaviour. A key component of the program
was a sequence of trust oriented activities that culminated in the
Aerial Trust Commitment Fall. From this activity,
team members began to really demonstrate their ability to trust
each other and the debrief sessions following the activities allowed
the team members to outline some of the reasons they felt that trust
was an issue in their communication challenges. At the conclusion
of the program the team was given ample time to develop a Team Code
of Conduct that outlined their common commitment to changing their
perceptions and behaviors in order to offer a greater level of service
to their clients.
