Overview:

"For every complex problem there is a simple solution, and it's usually wrong." When we try to solve complex problems applying simple solutions, we often find ourselves revisiting the "solved" problem at a later date. Why? Because we often don't explore the root causes that lead to our problems or issues. Why? Because it's hard work. If often leads us to re-evaluate not only the behaviours and attitudes of others, but also our own. Conflict is never easy. But it can lead to positive growth, change and development for individuals, teams and organizations. This program looks at some of the root causes for specific conflicts, and conflict in general. It doesn't offer "simple solutions" but it does offer the potential for real solutions, positive growth, change and development.

Key Learning Points:

  • Participants will better understand the nature of conflict and the impact it has on individuals and groups.
  • Participants will learn conflict management and resolution theories, skills and tools.
  • Participants will practise these skills and tools and begin to develop conscious competence in choosing the appropriate style/tool for various different scenarios.
  • Participants will action plan about how to apply these theories, skills and tools to future conflict situations.

 

Customizable Points:

  • Consultation with the clients is necessary and integral part of the final design process, all components of the program are adaptable to meet individual needs.
  • Group discussions, case studies and experiential activities can all be for specific clients.

 

Additional Information:

  • This program is not a band-aid solution, it will require participants to reflect on their own behaviours and attitudes as well as understand that as people, we all need to keep developing from whatever starting point we find ourselves at.
  • Conflict can be a difficult subject. Sensitivity and process facilitation are key elements of the program delivery.
  • I recommend delivering this program over a day and a half. One day to deliver the program, and assign on going "homework". And then a follow-up half day in a couple of months to reinforce the learning and trouble-shoot based on application of the concepts.
